(I really had planned, in my first mention of “Your Love Is,” to leave the Billy Collins reference unsaid. But I found I couldn’t resist. Billy Collins is awesome. I have very little tolerance for poets who choose not to rhyme or work with any sense of meter, and yet I would follow Billy Collins to the ends of the earth. Here‘s his Creative Commons-released recording of himself reading thirty-three of his poems.)

ETA: Here‘s wahsatchmo, from the Quick Stop comments, trying to “explain… the appeal of Elaine Chao Finnell’s song”:

To Jim156:

I’m a Lex Friedman aficionado, but just from listening to Ms. Chao Finnell, she’s an amazing producer, she created an incredibly breathy and beautiful vocal that really takes sheer talent to muster (and expensive equipment to capture), and her bongos/guitar just come out sensual and dreamy. She really put together something that is musically gorgeous.

I just went for appreciation of sheer humor when I voted for Lex Friedman and the Friedman Five featuring Lex! (and the Friedman Five). Plus Lex promised me money and love.

I’m not sure I see it.
(Edited: I listened to the entry again. I disagree — the instrumentation, maybe, but the chorus is pitched too high, or is too high in her range, for my liking. It’s a slight criticism, and I wouldn’t bother bringing it up if it weren’t that wahsatchmo’s point is that she’s “an amazing producer”. More or less it’s that if I liked the song, I wouldn’t mind that the chorus wasn’t in a throatier range, but if a dullwitted lyric is being defended on the ground that it’s a breathtaking work of music, it’d better be pretty darn near flawless.)
