Yeah, the Paul Frumpton Experience is musically, um, well, it’s musically not really anything. Lots of sounds, though. Maybe I’m giving them too much credit for subtlety, but I see a conflict between Dracula and the beach towel, or at least what the beach towel represents. Thematic similarities to “I Crush Everything” — I find them really hard to listen to, and I won’t listen again, but I liked the lyrics. I have a feeling (considering they were leading the challenger vote, last I checked) that they made it this far on the back of some kind of publicity push.

Although I own all of P&S’s CDs and all of JoCo’s CDs as well, I feel as though I have a much stronger grasp of what a JoCo song should be, so I’m much more aware of how “Live” is slightly off than “…Polka”. Which isn’t to say I don’t like the song, because I really think it’s both a good song and a successful answer to the challenge — if I’d been told it was a JoCo original I don’t think I would’ve been shocked. Haven’t yet decided how I’m voting, though.

ETA: I’d love to hear Paul and Storm do more work in this vein — not the “geeky / mad scientist” subject matter necessarily, but trying to rein themselves in.
EATA: What would you guys have given to see a stream from JoCo’s studio during the recording of “Polka”?
