I’m really torn on this one. On the one hand, because “Live” is in the style of JoCo, I like the song itself better. On the other hand, I think JC nailed the essence of P&S with his song. Not just the subject matter, but the whole package – the style, the sound, the harmonies, everything. “Live” missed the mark slightly for me. I can see P&S peeking out from behind it. Something in the lyrics. They don’t scan as smoothly as a JoCo song. Paul has a tendency to jam a lot of syllables into a line, which works in a funny song, but I heard it here too a little bit, and it pulled me right out of the JoCo place. And the ending guitar bit doesn’t sound right to me. (But props to, I assume, Storm, for the guitar work. Sweet!)
As for the challengers, I think Run At The Dog is far and away better than the others. (“Angry pudding!”) More complex and well-produced. How in the world did Paul Frumpton Experience make it into this round?! They are completely out of their depth. [Wrote that before I saw Gle3nn’s post.]
And now after reading Bry’s post: The guidelines specifically say “conflict” between column A and column B, and there was no conflict between Dracula and his beach towel. I’m just sayin’. Also, the lead vocal is way out of tune. I may have to give Elaine Chao Finnell another listen. I tuned out before it got to the twist.
ETA: Nope. Still don’t like Elaine Chao Finnell.
