Snap judgments (challengers only):
* Would’ve liked to see To Serve Mankind — looks like they missed the deadline, shame.
* Six entries: three uses of Dracula, two uses of pudding, one use of lager. Courageous, Inspector Friedman.
* I was pleasantly surprised by The Paul Frumpton Experience Featuring Larry’s lyrics — they were the only ones to pick up on the possibility of pairing “Dracula” with “beach towel”, and they explored the possibilities of that (rather evocative) image really well. They were the only ones, I felt, who made the “little from column A, little from column B” feel natural.
* Lex Friedman’s rhymes were really clever as well (although “lager” isn’t actually that difficult to rhyme). As with The Paul Frumpton Et Cetera, if the music had been more musicky, I might have thrown him a vote.
* RATD’s entry will need a couple listens before I know what to think of it — it’s unforgettable, that’s for sure, whatever it is.
* I can almost believe that Elaine Chao Finnell actually expected me to be surprised at the twist in her lyrics. I would’ve liked to have heard The Paul Frumpton Experience Featuring Larry featuring Elaine Chao Finnell, assuming they wrote the words and she wrote the music and never the twain did meet.
* Any challenge which requires one to include two things is tailor-made for Cloakie as long as those two things can get in a fight. Still, his and Jeff MacDougall’s entries are my first-listen favorites of this round.
