Reply To: What’s your favorite *underrated* Coulton song?
Not to derail the thread, but Jinx and I spoke about discovering JoCo when we were leaving the NYC show. I think I might have hit on something that is a bit disconcerting. I told her that when I first heard of JoCo, my first reactions were “A song about zombies? Pssh, I’m not listening to that.” “A song about an evil genius? Lame!”.
Now, I’m a big fan of JoCo now, and it was PAX that got me into him. But if I, a person who now loves Re Your Brains and Skullcrusher, wouldn’t give them a chance at first glance, then why would any other fan?
Also, the first time I heard Smoking Monkey, besides all the hits, I thought the album was extremely amateurish and poorly done. Now, I like the album alot. De-Evolving, Bozo’s Lament, etc…It just seemed like too much monkey to me, but now I can see that really, it could be any other two syllable word. But it just seemed like the album was a laundry list of “ooh, what’s funny? clowns! monkeys! uh, dick jokes!”
