To the extent I was thinking at all, I was thinking in the sense of the “you” abandoning Canadian bands for US, but I don’t know that it makes much sense. As I said, literally the first thing.
(Continuation of my “don’t be too faithful to the original” thought: For instance, even though you’ve found a way to get the “underwear” reference to work, I think you’d have less trouble with the lines at the end if you didn’t worry about whether or not they talked about the men, as did the original. Similarly, no need to stick with the “When you’re in…” structure or the rhyme with “eat” at the beginning of verse 2, nor having to begin the bridge with “‘Cause I enjoy” — it’d fit decently if you’d adjust that to ” ‘Cause I am glad we’ve got a queen / I am glad we’ve got poutine”, if you like the way those references fit in. To be honest, I am amused by your keeping the sounds of “Monaco” in “wanna go,” but the line doesn’t work for me, I don’t know why. But that’s me being picky. And I haven’t said enough about how clever the whole thing is.)
