I tried using a French keyboard layout once, thinking that maybe it would be easy if I always used a French keyboard layout for typing French, and a US one for typing English, since I’d be changing mindsets anyway. I was progressing, not exactly typing quickly, but getting used to the few changes necessary. Then one day I instinctively tried to ‘Select All’ using the keyboard shortcut Apple-A (yeah, I know they call that key Command these days, I guess I’m a luddite) and realised that Q and A are switched, so I’d actually typed Apple-Q for quit. It was a web browser, which had no changes to save and therefore didn’t ask for confirmation when I quit it. I switched back to US keyboard layout.
I should have tried the Swiss French layout instead, I noticed later that it has Q and A in the positions I’m used to.
