Reply To: My JoCo Music
I have untold numbers of Jonathan Coulton songs. I just checked my iPod and I have 11 different versions of “Code Monkey” alone. Some of them are remixes, some are orchestral, some are live versions. Lots and lots of Coulton on there.
I’ve downloaded/swiped every one of his songs at least once (I won’t mention how), but I didn’t keep them all (not even Coulton has a 100% hit rate IMO). After listening to the stolen music and deciding that they were indeed worth paying for, I made a donation, then I think I made another one later on, and then I started making videos which have turned hundreds of people on to his music, which has resulted in many extra sales for The Man. I also accept donations on my website and send Coulton half of whatever I get (I think I’ve gotten a couple hundred bucks so far). So I feel pretty comfortable that I’ve done the Right Thing overall.
I store the songs on my Mac, organize it with iTunes and listen to it almost exclusively with my iPod, most often in the car (Prius).
