The issue of intellectual property rights and our attitudes to it really deserves a new thread (if anybody feels strongly enough, please create that thread!), but within the context of this one I'd like to apologize to BenS. Ben, although the provocativeness of my comment was intentional, it did appear to target you, and in retrospect you didn't deserve that. As supporters of the twin ideas that a) we shouldn't steal from creative people, and b) it is an artist's right to make the rules for how their work is distributed*, we are really in the same camp. I'll leave it at that and save those thoughts for a better time and place.
* – okay, one clarification: I have no issue with an artist signing away that right either, as long as it isn't under duress. Failure to read fine print doesn't constitute duress.
