The lack of publicity had more to do with the tiny budget ($5mil) than it’s country of origin. It wasn’t even supposed to have a theatrical release, but that changed after its warm reception at Sundance.
The fact that it opened the same day as Serenity may also have had something to do with the fact that only the most die hard Gaiman and Henson fans went to see it.
