have you ever heard a song the vocals of which, though performed competently or even excellently by a professional singer, just grated on your nerves in a way you can't explain? my little brother feels this way about macy gray – the timbre of her voice just drives him nuts so that he can't listen to anything of hers.
this is more or less me with tmbg. something about the vocals just flips a switch somewhere in my hindbrain and so it has never really caught my interest. i don't mind it as much as my little brother detests macy gray, but i just can't get into them.
