Reply To: JoCo Songs with frequent use of dissonance
I am clueless about music theory, and just kind of respond to harmonies & lyrics that I like. Still, your list of songs that appeal to you has several of my favorites on it, and under the assumption that ordinary mortals can do the Amazon "if you liked X, you'll probably like Y" thing, I suggest you listen to:
~ Womb with a View
~ The Town Crotch
~ Flickr
~ Under the Pines
~ A Talk with George
~ Take Care of Me, and
~ That Spells DNA
I don't know if they contain the kind of dissonance that you like, but each of them has interesting chord progressions, expressive tempo changes, and that major/minor key mix that characterize most of the songs on your list, to me at least.
