I'm not sure if Jon does this, but for the intro and other breaks, I've found it sounds pretty damn good to continue the progression a little with a G chord when the melody hits the A.
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty damn sure he doesn't 
Heh, yeah, just listened to it again, he just stays on F. Also it turns out I was dragging those four notes of the guitar melody anyways. So basically I was pretty much completely wrong.
