I have an idea for what you could do for the inaccuracy if you're performing it live. You could explain to the audience before hand that the song has an innaccuracy, but you have CLEVERLY snuck in some new lyrics, because Garfield wasn't assassinated in 1882. So instead, you sing the lines "Garfield WASN'T assassinated in 1882"
