What Is Up

By JoCo October 25, 2010

From the mailing list:

Hello! If it seems like I haven’t written in a while, it’s because I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been hard at work on a new album with all new material, which apparently means I have to write a lot of songs and do a lot of work. Which is totally OK with me! I love to work!

Here are the things I want to tell you about.

1) The New Record Album

Yes, it’s going very well thank you. We’ve got a bunch of stuff recorded and it’s very exciting to hear it coming together. I still have to write a couple more “good ones” but the ones I already have are not too shabby. The band sounds fantastic and John Flansburgh and I are bringing in a bunch of other talented musicians to play their talented instruments. It’s good stuff, and I hope to have a clearer idea of when it will actually be finished and you can hear it. Stay tuned.

2) The Cruise

Also going well – we’ve pulled together a nice lineup of entertainers and it’s going to be a TON of fun. In case you missed the late additions, here’s the complete lineup as of now: John Hodgman, Wil Wheaton, Paul and Storm, Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy, Molly Lewis, Mike Phirman, and WAIT THERE’S MORE! John Roderick, Paul F. Tompkins, and Peter Sagal. Plus me. As I say, a TON of fun. For more details and updates check out http://www.jococruisecrazy.com.

3) Some Shows

There’s not a lot of touring happening these days, I have too much work to do writing good songs. But there are some opportunities to see me do my thang (i.e., play the guitar and sing about it). Look at this.

New York, NY – Best Buy Theater
W00tstock 2.7 (in which I play the role of Wil Wheaton)
Friday October 29 at 7 PM
Guests include: MC Frontalot, Marian Call, Jason Finn (and of course Paul and Storm and Adam Savage) PLUS EVEN MORE. I promise I will even play some new songs (Boo! We like the old stuff better!)
Tickets: http://bit.ly/acxghO

Raleigh, NC – Lincoln Theater
Jonathan Coulton Acoustic (I have to specify now, there is a band sometimes)
With Paul and Storm
Thursday December 2 at TBD
Details and tickets to come!

Atlanta, GA – Variety Theater
Jonathan Coulton Acoustic
With Paul and Storm
Friday December 3 at 8:30 PM
Tickets: http://bit.ly/1Ny2zs

And that’s it for now.

THANK YOU for scheduling a gig in Atlanta, where my friend Jon couldn't make it to the last show because he'd inconveniently broken both his legs. He's all better now (except for the emotional scars). We're REALLY looking forward to seeing you.

PLEAAAAASE do a concert in Seattle!
PLEAAAAASE!

*Ahem*
Nice to have some information, glad you're making more music.
...

Please?

Or you could just add the timeless and class "unplugged" tag at the end of your name to describe your solo shows.

Jonathan Coulton Unplugged.

M_pony says

I prefer "JoCoustic"

Kerrin says

I really like 'JoCoustic', but it may be confusing to new people. Unplugged seems the best.

I would like to say how awesome it is that you are coming to Raleigh. I already bought my ticket. You rock!

Zypto says

Whoo! JoCo is coming to Raleigh again! We must've been an epic crowd.

I wonder if you remember the Chewbacca in the crowd, JoCo?

Danneh says

JoCo, Are you ever going to come to the UK anytime soon?
Been waiting ages for the chance to see you live D:

JoCo says

@DAnneh: Not this year I'm afraid - working on this album and not doing a lot of touring until 2011. Certainly there won't be a UK trip this year, which I'm sad about.

Kathryn says

Woot!!!!! Thank you for coming to Atlanta!!!

I do have one question - is your show kid friendly? Or adults only? I have to ask, because my kids *love* your music (except First of May, which I refuse to play for them).

Thanks, again!

JoCo says

@Kathryn: I try to modulate the show depending on who I see in the audience, but there's not really a 100% guarantee that I will notice the right people and make the right choices. I can tell you that Paul and Storm always close with the pirate song which is not really kid friendly...

I've decided tonight to start a movement to get our favorite internet rockstar on national television. JoCo, I hope you don't mind me using this comments thread to start spreading the word, but since you're in the process of recording a new album with TMBG producing and have a live CD/DVD AND greatest hits album currently available, and since Conan O'Brien just came back on the air, I feel the time is ripe for this movement: Joco on Coco.

I've got a hashtag ready for anyone who wants to spread the word on twitter: #JoCoOnCoco

Let's make this happen.

Danneh says

Ah ;/ Thats ashame.
Well it gives me something to look forward to then I guess.
Can't wait to actually get the chance to see you ;D
