Thing a Week 48 – The Big Boom

August 31st, 2006

Last weekend when I was staying with some friends in Pennsylvania, there was a very loud noise that woke me up. It was thunder. But it was crazy thunder – it seemed to last about a minute and a half, and it wasn’t a bang, it was this huge, diffuse roar. And after it stopped all the car alarms were going off. It sounded like the end of the world.

At least that’s what I thought when I sat bolt upright in bed and reached for my car keys and a weapon. My first thought, probably before I was fully awake, was that someone or something had scraped Philadelphia out of the Earth, and that I was going to have to grab some provisions, get in the car and head north. I don’t know why this would be my default explanation for a loud noise. I suppose it means I’m a little on edge.

At first this was about a loud boom that led to nothing, but it didn’t take long before I realized it would be better if it was about a loud boom that really did signify the end of the world. The Big Boom. And then I changed Philadelphia to Michigan because there are too many syllables in Philadelphia. The rest of it writes and records and mixes itself!

Sweet, Dark Roasted, Sumatran Success

We did it! Thank you so much to everyone who chipped in with ideas and phone numbers and offers to host a show somewhere. As it turns out there were a number of options and in the end I just picked one – no offense to the venues and house concerts that I won’t be playing at. Thanks especially to for getting the word out to all the Seattle demanders.

So it’s official – I’ll be doing a full-on, Coulton-only acoustic show at The Jewelbox Theater SATURDAY at 8 PM (this is a 21 and over place, so bring your fake IDs – just kidding, stay in school kids). Tickets will be 10 bucks, and I believe they’re only available at the door. I’ll have CDs (including TAW1) and shirts and a fistful of songs. Rawk!

Now available at CDBaby, and eventually it should find its way to the iTunes Music Store and other digital music outlets. What a nice gift this CD would make for everyone you know!

Short notice! For a long time I thought I wasn’t going to be staying in Seattle through the weekend, but turns out I am. At there are 50-something demanders for a show, so I’ll make this offer: if anyone can somehow find an appropriate venue that still, impossibly, has a slot open this Saturday night, I’ll play it. If you know a booker (or are a booker) email me and we’ll talk. I’m doing a radio interview on KUOW on Friday, so I’ll have that opportunity to promote it. And of course my mailing list of hundreds of thousands of Seattle residents.

OMG! This is totally crazy!
