Hey Jonny C!

I, too, found my way here by a friend-of-a-friend link of "Baby Got Back," so the hoopla, though quieter, is definitely still continuing. I've listened to "BGB" over and over again, and I love it more every time - but I've also been all over your site and listened to a lot of your other stuff, too. So now I have a new musical best friend! and I have to go order your CDs and continue my slavish devotion, as well as continuing the pimping.

Let us know when your next CD comes out - whatever it's called, please put "Baby Got Back" on it!

(By the way, I think my favorite bit is about two-thirds of the way through. What you do with the spoken part is priceless.)

And let me second (or third, or whatever) the motion to make a karaoke version available to us when you get the time (ha ha). I was singing along to your "Baby Got Back" almost immediately because - though I am whiter than Wonder Bread - I, too, know every word. I've been getting up in karaoke bars for years (often introducing myself as "Opie") and singing "Baby Got Back," along with "Mr. Wendal" and Barry White. I steal the black man's music to get a laugh.

I, for one, would love to be able to sing YOURS in some bar some night.

Thanks to you and all your post-ers for the other names and links - there are some other wonderfully brain-breaking covers out there - I especially loved Nina's "Compton."

Keep up the great work, and thanks for brightening the last several days for me!

Another possible housekeeping item: Can you add the 'Thing a Week' songs to the songs page, when you get a chance, please?

Of course, I'm getting them as you post them, so it's not for ME (though it would have been convenient for finding the updated version of Shop Vac).

And thanks for fixing up the broken songs on the songs page! I felt deprived for not being able to hear them.

For what it's worth, I understood “Jonathan Coulton Sings Songs by Black People” to be a joke. And I have a comment about the possibility of turning it into reality.

I noticed one comment about 'Baby Got Back' by someone who thought it was clever, but too long. I don't agree, by the way - I like the song very much. However, I do think that an album of the same thing *would* be too long.

Having said that, an album with, say, two or three examples of 'black music white-ified', with a bunch of other (Thing a Week?) songs, and *called* “Jonathan Coulton Sings Songs by Black People” ... would be great!

What I meant on the solo thing I guess was that Vince's solo could go on the official track, in the Songs section and on the Thing A Week CD and the other ones could just be in a one-time, one blog entry release as a sort of consolation prize or novelty item. (I think it's also worth noting that I did vote for Vince's solo, it was very good)

But it's really your call, just thought I'd put that out there.

To the dude who said he didn't have a kid... IN YO FACE!!!

Not really. We short people are a peaceful folk who'd never psycologically harm someone in such a way.

But... I admit, the Baby Got Back thing was cool and it's how I found this site, but it's turning into something like Beck's "Loser". People are only familiar with that and refuse to listen to anything else. Mistah C is a genious and each peice of his work should be appreciated as an individual work of art as it is.

Mmm... That's some good Kenesaw Mountain Landis.

Oh No He Didn't: Sir Mix-A-Lot Meets Gordon Lightfoot?

Jonathan Coulton is a singer/songwriter who has recorded a fantastic cover version of Sir-Mix-A-Lot's classic 1992 rap paean to, shall we say, large tuchuses. It's hysterically funny and brilliant. Listen here:...

No. Releasing an MP3 of the song with synth solo in would serve only to show how god damn COOL you are.

Seriously, I'd really really like a version with the synth solo. Can you tell?

Ikea was the first song of yours I ever heard. Skullcrusher Mountain was the second. That was juuuuust about a year ago, and I've been a rabid fan ever since. You should get your shots (on account of the rabies) and then come to Seattle.
